New for 2018
We're making some exciting additions to Keyboard Fest starting this spring. In addition to keeping the festival open to children of early ages, we're adding an advanced category to inspire and motivate advancing students! Here's how it works:
- Steinway Level - Designed to help prepare students for major festivals, auditions, public performances. Students perform in front of an audience and judge. All Steinway-Level performers will play for the same judge. Students and teacher have the option for a constructive critique and brief coaching session. Must be an original work from one of the four major style periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century/Modern. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, plus honorable mention awarded at the end of the festival. 20 minute time limit.
- Boston Level - Designed to give advancing students confidence and constructive feedback. Students perform in front of judge only. Students perform any solo piano work, including pedagogical literature, simplified classical works, or standard literature. Students may play 1 or 2 pieces with music or from memory. 10 minute time limit.
- Essex Level - Designed to give early level and hobbyist students confidence and constructive feedback, rewarding them for their efforts. Students perform in front of judge only. Students perform any solo piano work of any difficulty level, pedagogical solos, or selections from a method book. 10 minute time limit.
- Duets - Duets are still an option as always for every level! For students performing in any solo level, it's only $5 more or $20 if only performing a solo.
What about memorization?
Students may perform from memory or with their music. Regardless of their choice, ALL students must provide an original copy of their music for the judge. Students performing from memory will be recognized for this accomplishment.
