In addition to teaching band in the Memphis City Schools, Jim Holcomb was arts department director with responsibilities for recruiting, coordinating, and facilitating training for over one hundred music and arts educators. During his tenure Memphis was repeatedly honored as one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education.
He has been featured widely in local and national media for innovative educational programming and he collaborated with Dru Davison and an MCS team to develop the Tennessee Fine Arts Assessment Program, designed for non-tested subjects such as music, art, and dance; the program has gained national attention and acceptance.
He has been a tireless advocate for music education and helped make the Memphis City Schools a model of music education.
