Overton High School Jazz Band chosen to perform at Savannah Music Festival

Overton High School Jazz band.Overton was chosen, along with 12 other bands from across the nation, to perform in Savannah on April 4-5.

The Savannah Music Festival is Georgia's largest musical arts festival. The festival consists of a three-day workshop and features the best high school jazz bands from across the country. The best band walks away with $13,000 in cash prizes.

Congratulations to Jeff Huddleston and the Overton Band Members! This is a wonderful achievement and a great opportunity!

Abigail Wilensky to perform live with the Foo Fighters at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards

Abigail named one of the Top 15 in the My Grammy Moment Competition

This year, the Foo Fighters gave fans the opportunity of a lifetime...the chance to perform with them at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Contestants entered videos through YouTube.com. The videos were then voted on and the winners chosen. The winners will perform at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, February 10 at 8:00 pm et/pt on CBS.

Among the Top 15 was Abigail Wilensky, daughter of Pam Wilensky, Orchestra instructor with the Memphis City Schools. You can see Abigail's video below or learn more by going to www.youtube.com/mygrammymoment.

 

Abigail Wilensky began playing the violin at the age of 2 1/2 with her mother, Pam Wilensky, as her teacher. After moving around, her family settled in Memphis where she became active in the public school system's string program. She studied privately with Pam Wilensky and Kimberly Meier-Sims at the University of Memphis' Suzuki program and publicly with Arthur Brooks, Betty Eubank, Cindy Daugherty and Andy Palmer.

She graduated from White Station High School in 2003 and Vanderbilt University in 2007 where she studied with Chris Teal at the Blair School of Music. She currently teaches privately, plays with the Jackson Symphony and performs with several local bands.
