Introduce other directors

Last spring/this fall, your child was given a listening aptitude test. At that time we also discussed the privileges and responsibilities of the band program. We then asked how many students would be interested in band. Your child was selected as a result of their listening test score, school grades and desire to be in the band.

For the last few weeks we have been testing all of the students on all of the instruments. We want them to play an instrument that they want to play. It is also important to check for any physical features that might keep them from being successful on that instrument.

Parents are very important in this process. Once the novelty wears off some students become discouraged. Please help us encourage your child to stay in band. We want all of the students to succeed.

There are numerous benefits to being in band:

  • Research shows that when music is included in the student’s curriculum, reading, writing, and math scores improve.
  • Students that play in the band scored higher on the SATs: students scored 57 points higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math than did students with no music participation.
  • The American Music Conference reports that band students are 52% more likely to go on to college and other higher education than non-music makers.

Tonight we are here to talk about how to get an instrument for your child. For your convenience we have asked our representative from Amro Music to come to the school to discuss their rental plan. We are not telling you where you have to get an instrument, and the school has no financial gain in this. It is our intention to recommend the music store that we feel has the best package of services for our band program.

Let me quickly tell you why we do business with Amro Music. Amro sells the brands of instruments we recommend. They also offer maintenance and replacement coverage for their instruments. With maintenance and replacement coverage we are able to keep the instruments in good playing condition so your child has the best chance for success in band. Our area representative also makes regular visits to the school to service the instruments.
